The first weekend of September was an absolute dream. It was a three day weekend (woohoo!), and we got to kick it off by photographing Alexis and Sean’s wedding day! You guys, this couple is seriously so beautiful! You may remember them from their engagement session back in July– I definitely recommend you go back and read their story, here! It was an honor to witness the joy that they share for each other, as well as for their family and friends. So many amazing people came together to make their day extra special, and it truly was.
The Inspiration
The inspiration behind their wedding day was 1920s Art Deco, which was reflected in everything from Alexis’s dress and hair pieces, to the flower arrangements and table settings. The theme was beautifully complemented by the blush, gold, and burgundy color scheme. And with the amazing backdrop of Mt. Pisgah Arboretum, their whole day was effortlessly and timelessly and elegant.
The First Look
I will be the first to say that the first look is my absolute favorite part of a wedding day. And it brings me so much joy when couples choose to opt for one! Not only do couples get more portrait time this way, but they also get to share a quiet moment together in the midst of a chaotic day. Couples react differently during this time, depending on their personalities, but it’s always a beautiful (and intimate) moment to witness. For Alexis and Sean, their first look was full of sweetness! Sean lit up the moment he saw his bride, and the two spent a few minutes giggling, flirting, and catching up with each other. You guys, I was practically exploding from the cuteness of these two. They have such an effortless connection with each other, and I loved getting to watch these first interactions on their wedding day.
The Ceremony
Alexis and Sean were married in a beautiful ceremony, officiated by Sean’s brother. There were so many personal elements, which made it so special! I especially loved it when Sean and Alexis took a moment during their ceremony to plant a tree with soil from each of their family’s homes. It was a lovely symbol, unifying their families and their homes as they grow in their love together.
The Reception
From the toasts, to the dances, there were so many special moments throughout the evening! It’s always fun to hear from the couple’s close family and friends during the toasts–you can learn so much about the couple during this time! Sean and Alexis were toasted with funny stories, gentle words of affirmation, and copious amounts of support. It was clear how much these two are loved by the people around them.
Sunset Portraits
If we have some extra time in the evenings, I try to sneak all of my couples away at some point for a few photos during sunset! The glow of golden hour is so romantic, and having a few photos from this time of day is always worth it!
The Dances
Then there’s the dances. You guys, I always get teary during this part of the day! Alexis and Sean appeared to be straight out of a fairytale, twirling together under the twinkle lights. Their family dances were equally touching and special. We had to leave shortly after this part of the day, but it was a beautiful way to end our coverage of their magical evening.
